The faculty and staff of the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff Master of Science in Addiction Studies Program are committed to the success of our students. Our faculty and staff include professionals from diverse backgrounds including social work, rehabilitation counseling, behavioral corrections, etc.

Dr. Bonnie F. Hatchett
Associate Professor
Ph.D., Social Work

Dr Hatchett is currently an associate professor at The University of Arkansas/ Pine Bluff teaching in the Masters of Addiction Studies Program. She is the author of over thirty articles and two books that are currently being used across the country in social work ( Multiculturalism and Skill-Building in Field Education. IA: Eddie Bower Publishers 2009) and addiction studies curriculums (Beliefs of Older African American Women About Alcohol Use and Abuse. Lewiston, New York: Edwin Mellen Press, 2002) as well.

Dr Hatchett also currently serves as one of twelve mentors for the ATTC Leadership Institute to assist junior faculty at HBCUs across the country to increase their knowledge and skills related to substance abuse. This Institute was funded by a grant to Morehouse School of Medicine by SAMSHA,

A social worker and social psychologist by training, she combines, the areas of practice, research and teaching. Dr Hatchett served as Director of the Social work Program at the University of Texas/El Paso for a number of years. She also occupied the Biedenharn Endowed Chair in Gerontology at the University of Louisiana for two years. While there she established The Oral History Institute for that university.

Her passion for writing and poetry have resulted in two previous books of that genre, Sights and Sounds of My YesterWorld Authorhouse, 2003 and A Heart that Found Itself: Reclaiming a Sense of Value. Goose River Press 2001.

Other published literary works include: “Mama Carrie: Autobiographical Insights” included in Cookin and Bookin in Texas, published by Texas Literary Guild. 2004, and, “Mama Carrie: The Legacy” included in, The Goose River Anthology Waldenboro, Maine.2004.

Dr. Jerry G. Ingram
Adjunct Assistant Professor
Ph.D., Social Work

Dr. Ingram holds a B.S. in Psychology from Iowa State University, and both a Master’s and a Ph.D. in Social Work from the University of Iowa. He is an Assistant Professor of Gerontology and Addiction Studies at UAPB, where he is the Coordinator of the Gerontology Program.

Dr. Ingram’s research interests include substance abuse among African American early adults, retirement planning, especially the retirement planning of baby boomers, and elder abuse. He is a former Hartford Doctoral Fellow and has several journal publications and national conference presentations.




Dr. Cynthia Troutman
Assistant Professor
Ph.D., Rehabilitation Counseling

Cynthia Troutman has been a substance abuse professional for 23 years working in the areas of counseling, prevention, and education. Dr. Troutman is currently an Assistant Professor in the Graduate Addiction Studies Program at the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff. Her research interests include substance abuse within minority populations, co-occurring disorders, alcohol expectancies, and substance abuse within spinal cord injured populations. Dr. Troutman has presented information to national, state, and local groups on topics of substance abuse intervention and education.

Dr. Troutman earned her doctoral degree in Human Rehabilitation from the University of Northern Colorado, her Master’s of Science degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from Southern Illinois University, and her BA in Psychology from Ohio Northern University.
